The European Union of Music Competitions for Youth was founded in 1970, by the national music competitions of three countries: Germany France and Belgium.

The primary aims of the Union are to find funding for young musicians and to promote their activities within the aegis of the European nations. A major part of his aim is to establish friendly contact between young people, especially young musicians.

Other aims:

Collaboration between the organizers and member competitions for the exchange of information regarding the work methods etc,
The exchange of participants and experts belonging to the member nations,
The organization, on a regular basis, of the European Music for Youth Prize for prize winners of national music competitions,
The organization of European concerts and other events to further the education and training of the prizewinners, e.g. at the European Music Academy, Bonn and the European Summer Academy, invited by the Hindemith-Foundation.
To stimulate the foundation of further music competitions for youth in European countries in co-ordination with the world Federation of International Music Competitions.
